World Cup 2022: how much will the Blues receive in the event of a final victory?

The 2022 World Cup begins this Sunday, November 20 in Qatar. A competition that the French team, defending champion, hopes to win again. Especially since if they get a third star, the Blues will pocket a very nice bonus, higher than the one they had received four years ago.

The French team ready to defend its title. This Sunday, November 20 marks the start of the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will take place this year in Qatar. For this big day, TF1 broadcasts the opening ceremony followed by the first match of the competition: Qatar – Ecuador. As for the Blues, we will have to wait until Tuesday, November 22 to see them enter the competition. It will be against Australia, from 8 p.m. Reigning world champions, the men of Didier Deschamps are eagerly awaited in the competition and hope to earn a third star. A final victory would also allow players and staff to receive a particularly juicy bonus.

Indeed, as the newspaper L’Équipe revealed last June, FIFA (International Football Federation) will allocate a total of 440 million dollars (420.8 million euros) in performance bonuses to the federations of the participating teams. The team that will be crowned world champion will thus receive €40.2 millionor an additional 8 million euros compared to the 32.2 million paid to the French Football Federation after the victory of the Blues at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

12 million euros for players and staff

But on these sums allocated by FIFA, the FFF has decided to donate 30% to players and staff members. Thus, if the French team retains its title, the players and the 4 staff members will share a little over 12 million euros, i.e. €402,000 per person, based on a list of 26 players. A significant increase compared to 2018, because during the World Cup in Russia, the Blues had pocketed around 350,000 euros. But for several years, many players have chosen to donate part of these bonuses to associations.
