The FC Barcelona dreams day and night with the goals of Erling Braut Haaland ahead of the 2022-23 season. The Barça team’s interest in the Borussia Dortmund striker is great, but not new. In 2019, the then president of the Catalan team, Josep María Bartomeu, appreciated the incorporation of the Nordic. However, a report from scouts from the Barcelona institution advised him against hiring the footballer who at that time defended the colors of RB Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga. Eventually, he ended up in the Ruhr area team.

According to Culemanía, a Barcelona supporter portal, the LaLiga Santander team scouts recognized Haaland’s great talent for scoring goals. After a short stint at the Molde, before reaching the energy drinks club, Erling’s numbers were already impressive.

What’s more, the Dortmund striker had already made himself known after scoring nine goals against Honduras in the U-20 World Cup in Poland. At Barça they estimated that their ability against goal was indisputable. However, the so famous Barça DNA did not run through the veins of the Nordic striker.

Always according to the aforementioned source, the scouts wrote in the report requested by Barcelona’s sports management that Haaland did not meet the associative profile that is sought in potential club signings. Thus, Bartomeu left the Leeds-born on a silver platter for Dortmund.

At that time, the Salzburg and the surroundings of Haaland only asked 40 million euros for the operation. Today, Dortmund estimates that the transfer would cost up to 300 ‘kilos’, which can be seen in the transfer price from club to club, commissions for agent Mino Raiola and Erling’s salary for five seasons.

Since signing for Dortmund in January 2020, Haaland has scored 76 goals in 80 games, across all competitions. In the Champions League, with Salzburg and later Borussia Dortmund, he scored 23 goals in 21 games. Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time top scorer in the Champions League, needed 61 duels to reach 23 goals.
