MILAN (AP) – Fiorentina beat Napoli 5-2 in overtime on Thursday in a game with three ejections and one agonizing goal, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup.
Vincenzo Italiano’s team will now face Atalanta, who dispatched Venezia 2-0 on Wednesday.
Milan later played with Genoa. The winner will seek a place in the quarterfinals against Lazio or Udinese.
Dušan Vlahović scored for Fiore at 41 and Dries Mertens leveled at 44. Before the end of the first half, Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartłomiej Drągowski was sent off for taking Eljif Elmas out of the area.
Playing with one man less, however, the Florentines took the lead again at 57, when Cristiano Biraghi recovered the ball after crashing a free kick into the wall and scored with a shot off a post.
Six minutes from the end, the Mexican striker of Napoli Hirving Lozano saw the red card for a foul against the Argentine Nicolás González and in injury time, the Spanish Fabián Ruiz was also sent for a double yellow, leaving the homeowners with nine.
Andrea Petagna, however, tied the score and forced an extension.
But in extra time, an outnumbered Napoli could not contain the Florentines, who finished off their rival with goals from Lorenzo Venuti, Krzysztof Piątek and Youssef Maleh.
