Foreign Minister: Mobility at United Nations level for the Cyprus issue

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulidis, described as particularly positive the fact that after the intervention of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, at the European Council Summit, a relevant report on the obligations of Turkey towards the Republic of Cyprus has been included, based on the EU Declaration -Turkey of 2016 for immigration. He also said that there is mobility at the United Nations level in relation to the resumption of talks, while pointing to the issue of appointing a representative of the UN Secretary General.

Speaking to reporters in Houlou, Paphos, where he attended the funeral of the remains of the deceased during the Turkish invasion, Socrates Christodoulou, Mr. Christodoulidis said that it was an issue to which “there was a response from our partners, to the request and to intervention of the President of the Republic “.

Beyond that, he continued, we see an intensified provocation on the part of Turkey, whether it manifests itself in the enclosed area of Famagusta, or in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus and even in areas bordered by international law with neighboring countries.

“Our effort is focused both at the EU level and at the level of the United Nations to address these challenges,” Christodoulidis said.

He also noted that there is mobility at the level of the UN and the Security Council, so that “as soon as possible we see the prospect of resumption of talks”, while noting that the first thing that should be done in this direction is the appointment of a representative. of the UN Secretary-General, who will explore these perspectives.

“We are working in this direction so that there will be relevant announcements soon,” the Foreign Minister concluded.
