Beautiful handwork! MDR presenter Thomas Böttcher painted garden gnomes during the Corona lockdown and is now auctioning them off on eBay for a good cause.
Dresden – Some love him idolatrous, others only have fun with him. Opinions differ on the garden gnome. MDR presenter Thomas Böttcher (56) jumped over his shadow for a good cause.
He is auctioning off two specimens from Europe’s only dwarf manufactory in Gräfenroda on eBay – hand-painted by him and his wife Nancy (48).
During the MDR shoot for “Böttcher creates that” last year, he took a box of scrap dwarfs from Thuringia to Döbeln.
Five battered dwarfs, all cracked or cracked, slept at his house all autumn.
Huge anti-corona demo in Dresden: escalation in the city center
“In the lockdown I then said to Nancy: Before we sit in front of the TV every evening, we can also paint the dwarfs,” remembers Böttcher. “We glued the gnomes, repaired them, painted them and covered them with a weatherproof clear coat.”
Since yesterday, Friday, you can bid on a dwarf duo (34/18 cm tall) on eBay. Simply search under the keyword “Garden Gnomes Böttcher Edition”.
Minimum bid: 100 euros. “We hope that the amount will double, because all of the money will go to the NCL Foundation, which we have been in contact with for a long time. The Foundation supports research into childhood dementia.” Three dwarves remain. “I gave one away, one went home to Gräfenroda. And yes, I’ll put one in my garden myself,” admits Böttcher with a grin.
“Behind the house, next to my fountain, a dwarf with a yellow pointed cap will be set up in spring. But he should stay alone, he could only have one more wife,” Böttcher wards off possible fan packages from the outset…
