The Office of Education (OH) is investigating the language exam of Gergely Karácsony: according to the rules of the National Higher Education Act, it can initiate an official audit to examine the legality of the operation of a higher education institution. The office also exercises this right, as it said, on Monday, ie it still contacts the Corvinus University of Budapest today and asks to investigate the matter, writes the Hungarian Nation.
According to the newspaper’s previous information, the university’s institutional regulations stipulate that the appointment of a teaching assistant would have required a knowledge of a second foreign language at the level of professional language and lecturer after the first. Gergely Karácsony passed the foreign language lecture exam at the Eötvös Loránd University in 2000, which was enough for graduation at the time, but not for the appointment of a lecturer. This is because university examinations have never been state or state-recognized language exams.
Gergely Karácsony’s language skills became a topic after the politician’s statement to the Economist. In the interview, the mayor called Viktor Orbán low and fat, for which he later apologized. Secretary of State Balázs Fürjes then examined Gergely Karácsony’s language skills, who, as a result, acknowledged, “the English spoken by the Prime Minister is probably better than mine”.
In today’s article, the paper adds that Corvinus, OH and the mayor themselves are expected to answer their further questions, as the mayor is not only concerned with the legality of teaching work, but also with the period between 2008 and 2012, when the two performed adjunct duties requiring knowledge of a foreign language.
