Cuba continues to monitor its epidemiological situation in the presence of COVID-19. The analyzes are daily and cover multiple indicators. No effort, despite the fact that experts seek the detail, should lead to compliance, because the epidemic takes lives. That is why even to look at the figures you have to be bold and look for all possible combinations when reading and making decisions.
On this last concept, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, shared on Tuesday his certainty that statistics is not something cold, in such a way that before it you have to draw relationships for everything type of studies, because that is the way, said the Head of State, which will give us definitions of where the problems lie.
Such reflection took place during the meeting of the Temporary Working Group of the Government to confront COVID-19, a day that was also chaired by the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, and in which – through videoconference that allowed the exchange together with the authorities of each province and of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud — a review was reviewed, along with the behavior of the epidemic, the availability of medicinal oxygen in each territory, as well as the electro-energy situation.
The National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), Dr. Francisco Durán García, was in charge of explaining data of interest on the transmission of the epidemic throughout the island. They are already reported at the national level, according to what he said. the expert, more than 761 thousand confirmed cases of COVID-19.
In the last fifteen days, he pointed out, 114,315 people have been diagnosed as positive for the disease, for a transmission incidence rate of 1,021.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. The provinces that maintain the highest indicator in this regard are Pinar del Río, Sancti Spíritus, Cienfuegos, Mayabeque, Atermisa, and Las Tunas.
According to the National Director of Epidemiology of the Minsap, the country accumulates 6,449 deaths due to the new coronavirus, which represents a lethality of 0.85 percent, 1.21 percent lower than the world; and 1.63 for the Americas region.
Similarly, in the voice of Dr. Durán, the numbers referring to the vaccination process in the country were updated: according to figures collected up to this September 12, of the total population of Cuba, those who have received a first dose represent 62.9 percent; those who have reached the second are 46.3 percent; and with a third, they are already 38.5 percent.
Although in some territories the situation tends to gradually control the epidemic, in others the transmission figures are still high; and since the greatest cost of the spread of the disease is the loss of life, the country is still tense in a battle that moves, as in war, multiple forces. Even reaching the bottom of the figures, there will be a threshold that is worth attending to all the time and in which our fate is also decided: that of the responsibility of each one of us.
