The decision comes after criticism from several actors, including Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson, after the Los Angeles Times reported in February that the organization’s 87 voting members were not black.

The HFPA, meanwhile, has made efforts to solve that problem, most recently by adding a slew of African Americans, Latinos, and Asians to its membership base and partnering with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) citizens’ movement. ) to promote diversity, equality and inclusion.

The Golden Globes, which have been awarded since 1944, will also be awarded this year. What the award ceremony will look like is yet to be decided by the HFPA.
