The Portuguese international footballer Gonçalo Guedes will undergo surgery “in the next few days” for an injury to his left knee, Benfica announced today, without revealing the extent of the stoppage or the specific physical problem.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica informs that the athlete Gonçalo Guedes has an injury to his left knee, affecting the meniscus, which requires surgical treatment, to be carried out in the coming days”, the “incarnates”, leaders of the championship, limited themselves to saying.
The 26-year-old striker returned to the club where he grew up in January, on loan from Wolverhampton, in the English League, and scored two goals in eight games under the guidance of Roger Schmidt in Lisbon.
He was on the bench in the thrashing of Club Brugge (5-1) on Tuesday, in the round of 16 of the Champions League, but did not play, having played 60 minutes in the victory in Vizela (2-0), at the end- weekend.
