Santo Domingo – The Government authorized the sale of antigen testing to detect covid-19 so that they can be purchased in pharmacies. This measure seeks to facilitate access to the population to the tests at an affordable price.
It was adopted at the meeting of the Health Cabinet held this Thursday at the National Palace and in which the high costs of antigen tests in laboratories were discussed.
The Government will coordinate with the pharmaceutical companies so that they initiate the bureaucratic processes that allow them to put antigen tests for home use at the service of the public.
These tests are sold abroad up to 15 times less than the prices charged by the laboratories that until now had a monopoly on the application of the tests.
While in Europe and the United States antigen tests are freely sold and are priced to the public from 2 euros to ten euros each (equivalent to between 120 and 600 pesos), while in private Dominican laboratories they charge 1,800 pesos ( 30 euros each).
For its part, the Union of Pharmacies, Inc., received the request today from the Minister of Public Health, Doctor Daniel Rivera, that pharmacies support the population
to acquire the COVID-19 test in their establishments.
The entity reported in a statement that it made its more than 1,200 pharmacies available to the government, through the Minister of Health.
