After his time as CEO at VfB Stuttgart, Thomas Hitzlsperger is aiming for a new chapter in his life. But that’s not the whole truth, says our sports editor Carlos Ubina.

Stuttgart – Thomas Hitzlsperger has thought through all of this carefully. His thoughtful words and his reserved demeanor. He always does that. Because he doesn’t like to appear unprepared. And now the CEO wants to leave office with his head held high. A self-chosen farewell at VfB Stuttgart, where the presidents, coaches and managers are otherwise chased away. That’s the message. After six intensive years, as Hitzlsperger emphasizes. At the age of 40 he is aiming for a new phase of life and profession.
