Haaland's goal gives victory to Dortmund in Turkey

LONDON (AP) – Erling Haaland again noted that Borussia Dortmund took a 2-1 victory over Turkish monarch Besiktas on Wednesday in their Champions League debut.

Jude Bellingham, the 18-year-old English midfielder, shone by scoring Dortmund’s first goal and then qualifying Haaland for the Norwegian forward to score his ninth goal in six games in all competitions this season. Haaland had 10 goals in eight Champions League games for Dortmund last year.

With the encouragement of his fans, Besiktas was superior at the beginning of the match. The visitors, on the other hand, had difficulty in planting themselves on a very soft court.

Bellingham opened the account at 20 after a Thomas Meunier cross that went down with his chest before finishing with a shot that slipped between the legs of goalkeeper Ersin Destanoğlu. Dortmund came to exercise clear dominance and Bellingham assisted Haaland to make it 2-0 in the first-half injury time.

The Spanish central Francisco Montero discounted for Besitkas in the fourth minute of the discounts on the end when heading a free kick from Miralem Pjanic.

Debut memorable

Sheriff Tiraspol made an unforgettable debut in the group stage when the club from a breakaway region of Moldova defeated visiting Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0.

Two goals from Brazilian defender Cristiano after counterattacks gave Sheriff the victory in a Group D completed by Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

The match brought the continental tournament to nine frontiers. Sheriff is the first club in the Moldovan league to qualify for this instance but it is located in Transnistria, a nation that proclaimed itself independent and is not recognized by any member state of the United Nations.
