The new contract is valid until 2023 and came just in time for the 32-year-old’s birthday.

“We are very pleased that Benjamin Schmidt’s extension worked out on his birthday,” said BSG trainer Miroslav Jagatic (45). “He is a figure I can identify with! Not only willing to always give everything and give everything for the club, but also as a human being a decisive factor for the good atmosphere in the team.”

The defender has been at home in Leutzsch since he was a child in 1996 and, with the exception of a short detour to Cottaweg (2011 to 2014), has spent his entire career at the Alfred-Kunze-Sportpark.
