Chemnitz – Applications for the Chemnitz social mayor position have arrived at the town hall. One person stands out in particular: Cornelia Utech (52), head of the social welfare office, throws her hat into the ring again.
The trained nurse and administrator had already applied for the first advertisement in April, but withdrew it again.
The outcome of the first round of applications for the post was bitter: the election in the city council in June became part of party politics.
Instead of by far the most promising applicant (there were only three left in the end), left-wing politician Susanne Schaper (43), an unknown Lower Saxony was elected by the committee.

Mayor Sven Schulze (49, SPD) vetoed – the position was advertised again.
In addition to Cornelia Utech, who could not be reached for an opinion on Tuesday, Chris Dietrich (37, former operator of the “Oberdeck”), Torsten Meinhold (Managing Director DJH Landesverband Sachsen), Ingo Eckardt (Mayor candidate 2021 Plauen) and Alies Domaschke (Dresden ASB boss) advertised.
The interest in the leadership for Department 5 (Education, Social Affairs, Youth, Culture and Sport) is greater than in the first round of applications. At that time, 13 people sent in their papers – today there are 27 applicants (18 men, nine women), more than twice as many.
