Give it a paw: After his cruciate ligament operation, Kees still looks a bit bruised.

Dog Kees has not had it easy in the past few months: his masters left him behind, he had to go to the animal shelter and recently had an operation.

Cologne – Kees’ life changed abruptly when his masters tied him to a tree and disappeared without a trace. The Staffordshire mongrel has been staying at the Bergheim animal shelter since July and recently had to undergo an operation.

At first, the animal shelter near Cologne had problems getting Kees in front of the lens at all. The daredevil does not want to be photographed at all. Didn’t he notice that good photos can make for a new home? The animal shelter asked itself at the time.

Kees is a classic found animal and was rescued by the police. Someone had tied him to a tree and ran away. As a result, the mongrel was very insecure and initially felt rather uncomfortable in the animal shelter.

However, he quickly blossomed into a loving and happy dog who loves and needs human contact, the animal asylum staff describe the male born in 2018. “Kees is very playful and loves soccer above all else.”

“He is well behaved on a leash and it is not a problem to put the muzzle on, which he has to wear due to his race,” he is further praised.

Then came a small stroke of fate: Kees had to undergo cruciate ligament surgery and has remained in the hospital bed ever since. The romping around with his beloved soccer ball has to fall flat first.

“Kees is an absolute dream patient, he went through everything so well! As a reward, there will hopefully be a dream home,” said the animal shelter a few weeks after Kees’ introduction.

The black-and-white male looks after the sick bed while his keepers are looking for a new home for the neutered dog: “For Kees we are looking for active people who are up to his power and who will never leave him alone again.”

The animal sanctuary also adds that Kees is on the list because of his breed and needs a special permit. At the moment, not much can be said about the compatibility with other conspecifics. Whether Kees gets on well with cats or other dogs remains to be found out.
