Heavy rain, hail and thunderstorms: six districts under yellow warning | Meteorology

The districts of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga are this Thursday under yellow warning due to the forecast of showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by hail and thunderstorms, according to the IPMA.

These notices will be in effect until 12:00 today.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Viana do Castelo, Porto, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga due to maritime agitation, with waves from the west expected to be 4 to 4 .5 meters between 12:00 today and 12:00 on Friday.

The yellow warning, the least serious, is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

Due to the maritime agitation, the ports of Caminha, Douro, Esposende, Vila Praia de Ancara, Póvoa do Varzim, Vila do Conde and Portinho da Ericeira are closed to all navigation. According to data available on the Navy website, the bars in Aveiro, Figueira da Foz and Viana do Castelo are conditioned.

The IPMA also placed the western group of the Azores (Flores and Corvo) and the eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria) under yellow warning because of the rain, which can sometimes be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms until 03:00 on Friday.

The institute also issued a yellow warning for the western and central groups (Terceira, Graciosa, Faial, Pico and S. Jorge) in view of the forecast of sea unrest between 18:00 today and 00:00 on Saturday.

These two groups are still under yellow warning because of the wind.

In the western group it will be in effect until 6 pm today and in the central group between 3 pm today and 12 pm on Saturday.
