Huge anti-corona demo in Dresden: escalation in the city center

Dresden – Big alarm for the police: pandemic deniers and right-wing extremists have been calling for an illegal demonstration for several days this Thursday evening Dresden on.

At least 1500 demonstrators had announced themselves, in addition to the right-wing extremist “Free Saxons”, Pegida and the local group of the “Identitarian Movement” also mobilized to Dresden.

The police were in the city with several water cannons and clearing tanks.

Update, 9:50 p.m.: Did the police take action against peaceful counter-protest by the clinic staff?

As a doctor from the Dresden University Hospital wrote on Twitter, the police issued reprimands against employees of the clinic and wrote advertisements, among other things because of “uniforms”, as she explained. However, it is said to have only been the doctors’ smocks.

Those involved would also have to expect reports of administrative offenses due to violations of the Corona Ordinance, since the counter-protest was considered a meeting.

Update, 9.10 p.m.: Police establish identities

As the police announced, 45 administrative offense reports had been written against demonstrators by 8 p.m. Also afterwards, according to TAG24 information, many other people were arrested and their personal details were documented.

Update, 8:15 p.m.: The situation in the city center has escalated

The situation escalated in the city center. The police raced and ran after demonstrators who broke a cordon. Some of the protesters on Prager Strasse threw firecrackers.

According to the police, the large protest march at the university clinic was “prevented for the time being”. As a result, the participants spread out across the city.

The officers were widely deployed and wanted to prevent further elevators.

Update, 7.45 p.m.: Demo now also on Stübelallee and on Strassburger Platz

Another protest group moved across Stübelallee, north of the Great Garden. Some demonstrators wanted to join this and also went there.

In order to have a good view of the demonstration, the police were also in the air with a helicopter. He apparently concentrated on the new protest on Stübelallee.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible. There were traffic delays.

Update, 7.15 p.m.: Police are pushing demonstrators in the direction of Schillerplatz

The police cracked down on Fetscherstrasse, near the university clinic. In the meantime, the on-site officials assessed the protest as a forbidden gathering. Anyone who refused to leave the site had to expect a personal identification.

Several pandemic deniers also bullied the counter-demonstrators and reluctantly followed the instructions of the police.

Update, 6:53 p.m .: “Offline networking” suspect on site

Sebastian A. – known from the Pegida environment and from demos in Dresden and in Saxon Switzerland – was also in the protest crowd. The man from Dresden is also accused of having participated in the Telegram group “Offline Networking Dresden”.

There were among others the Murder plans against the Prime Minister of Saxony planned and shared instructions for terrorist attacks.
