The police did not confirm the specific number, but “significantly more” than the 5000 people registered for the demo had come.

According to the police, several thousand people were present at each of the three marches that were supposed to meet at the end of the Deutz shipyard.

But not all of them came to the final rally. The organizers wrote on Twitter: “Today we are 25,000 people on the streets of Cologne. Those who are really serious about climate justice are currently not seen in government statements and general meetings, but on Fridays during the climate strike.”

In the morning, the Chancellor candidate of the Greens, Annalena Baerbock (40), joined the demonstrators in Cologne. Before the march started, she was gone again – in the afternoon she came to the end of her party’s election campaign in downtown Düsseldorf.
