The Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina (DEM-MS), visits this Thursday (13) rural properties affected by the drought in Mato Grosso do Sul. South of the country.

Tereza should still meet with leaders of rural producers in the Naviraí region. This week, she has already been to Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná.

The delegation includes secretaries from the ministry, directors of Banco do Brasil and the Central Bank, in addition to the president of Conab (National Supply Company), Guilherme Ribeiro; and the president of Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), Celso Moretti.

Decree – At the beginning of the month, the state government declared a situation of emergency due to drought in the 79 municipalities of Mato Grosso do Sul. Governor Reinaldo Azambuja (PSDB) reported that the drought is already forcing poultry and swine producers to fetch water with a water truck. . Situation recorded, for example, in Vicentina, 248 km from Campo Grande.

“The amount of rain was very small. This measure helps a lot the productive sector, which is suffering great losses. It looks like we will have a quarter with below average rainfall. The producer will be able to trigger the insurance, Proagro [Programa de Garantia da Atividade Agropecuária], seek with financial institutions the possibility of expanding debt payments. It opens up the possibility of some renegotiation,” he said on January 3.

The measure helps rural producers to reduce losses in crops and farms, as it serves as a tool for them to trigger agricultural insurance and renegotiate financing installments. The government’s initiative was celebrated by the producers.

The president of Aprosoja-MS (Brazilian Association of Soy Producers), André Dobashi, highlighted that the soybean crop in the State is in the period of grain filling, and that it is already noticed that in the municipalities with sandy soil, where sowing was done in advance, already has an impaired productivity. “Some even have zero productivity. We are going to the field to carry out this survey in loco, to present the real situation of this impact of the drought on production”.
