It is undeniable that forward Walter is Santa Cruz’s main signing for the 2022 season. Therefore, technically the player who has played for numerous clubs including Cruzeiro, Goiás, Fluminense, Athletico Paranaense and Porto, from Portugal, starts the year as holder. However, a teammate also intends to find his space in the tricolor attack.

Hired from Boston City Brasil, a club in the second division of the Campeonato Mineiro, striker Rafael Furtado arrives at the Pernambuco team to compete for position with Walter. However, he doesn’t see a problem with the competition. According to the 22-year-old player, the opportunity to work alongside an experienced athlete is certainly something that deserves to be valued.

“Walter is a sensational guy, he received me very well. He is a very complete player, I am happy to be able to work with him. The dispute between him and I is with joy, there is no rivalry. We are happy training together and whoever Leston (Junior, choir coach) puts to play will do the trick”, he said at a press conference.

Revealed at Paraná Clube, the striker, like his teammate Walter, also has a stint in Portuguese football. In 2021, he played for the B team of Academica de Coimbra and scored once in 15 matches. Soon after, he transferred to Boston City Brazil and scored six goals in nine games. “I’m a striker who doesn’t like to be stuck inside the area. I have mobility, I try to give my teammates a pass line and I also have a good aerial ball. If I have the opportunity, I’ll give Santa fans a lot of joy. I was very happy with Santa Cruz’s proposal. Everyone knows the history and greatness of the club and the fans, who are just another player on the field. It’s been an experience that I’m really enjoying”, he concluded.
