The system of incentives for production that brought HBO or Netflix to film in Portugal must reformulate the candidacy model, abandoning the criterion of mere order of arrival, differentiate the profiles of “priority” productions and types of incentives for the large production companies to foreign companies do not run out so quickly of the funds for the so-called “cash rebate”, recommends the PlanApp study commissioned to evaluate the Support Fund for Tourism and Cinema (FATC). The report, released this Friday, reveals that 61% of cash rebate between 2017 and 2022 it was used by international production companies but that there is still a way to go to combine the development of cinema and audiovisual and tourism: just over half of the supported productions are aligned with the strategy of national tourism.
