Emmanuel Macron assured Poland of his solidarity with the migration situation on its eastern border.

The French head of state received Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in office on Wednesday. Macron, the French presidential office, has reaffirmed his country’s solidarity with Poland over the destabilization of its eastern border. The French president said:

France is ready to provide support on the ground for the security of all of us and considers it urgent to strengthen the involvement of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in addressing the humanitarian problems at the border.

According to the statement, the French president also confirmed that he and his European partners would continue to put pressure on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in order to end the use of migrants for political purposes. Emmanuel Macron was also informed that he had spoken to his Polish colleague in order to allow the media to report freely from the Polish side of the border.

According to a statement from the Elysée Palace, the leaders of the two countries also agreed on the situation of the rule of law in Poland.

The President reiterated his concerns on this issue and called on the Polish Government to find a solution that safeguards the fundamental values ​​of the European Union.
