Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving member of the terrorist commander who committed the attack, justified the Paris series of 13 November 2015, which claimed 130 lives, on Wednesday, before the Paris jury.
We attacked France, we targeted the population, the civilians, but there was nothing personal about that
Said the 32-year-old French-Moroccan chief defendant.
The goal is not to rotate the knife in the wound again, but to be honest
He said calmly. He added:
The French planes bombing the Islamic State make no distinction between man, woman and child. We wanted France to experience the same pain we did.
In the case of the series of assassinations that began a week before the trial, the president of the jury gave the floor to all 14 defendants present in order to make a “spontaneous statement” about the charges against them.
Francois Hollande (former French president) said we attacked France because of its values, but that is a lie. Francois Hollande knew what he was risking when he decided to attack the Islamic State in Syria. He knew the French would die too
Said the accused. Salah Abdeslam said:
I know you may be shocked by what I say. But my goal is to be honest with those who are experiencing unspeakable pain. The minimum is to tell the truth. I often hear I’m a provocateur, but that’s not true. I want to be honest. It is not my intention to offend anyone.
In a terrorist attack six years ago at the Stade de France national stadium, three suicide bombers blew themselves up, and another three-member terrorist commando took action in downtown Paris. In the downtown area, 39 people were killed on the terraces of six cafes, bars and restaurants, while a third commando broke into a concert hall called Bataclan, where three jihadists killed ninety people and wounded more than 350. The series of assassinations was undertaken by a terrorist organization in the Islamic State, a group of which was set up in Europe, especially in Belgium. The same network struck down on 22 March 2016 in Brussels, where 32 people lost their lives.
Of the terrorists, only Salah Abdelam did not visit Syria, nor did he receive combat training. The investigation revealed that he was the logistics organizer in Europe, he rented cars, apartments and transported terrorists. However, it is not yet clear how and why he survived. His interrogation in the nine-month trial, like the other defendants, is not expected until early 2022.
