Index - Abroad - Poland builds wall against illegal immigrants

Poland is building a wall of 1.6 billion zlotys (about 126 billion forints) along the Belarusian border. The Euronews according to the French news agency AFP, the country’s government has already approved a plan to build the wall on Tuesday. However, Parliament has yet to give its approval to the project.

The number of attempts to cross the border illegally is growing, the Polish government said on Wednesday. It is estimated that since August, thousands of illegal immigrants from the Middle East and Africa have tried to get from Belarus to Poland.

The European Union accuses the Minsk government of deliberately generating a migration crisis in response to sanctions imposed on the country along the border. In response, Poles are trying to dissuade people from crossing the border illegally by texting.

Like Poland, Lithuania had previously made a similar decision and began building the wall on the Belarusian border.
