Last autumn, Rita Halász ‘s first novel, Deep airta at the Margó Literary Festival and Book Fair, and this year the jury awarded him the Margó Award for the best first volume of prose. The book was added to the top ten list of the Libri Literary Prize in the spring, and it was recently announced that a series would be made of it.
Rita Halász sensually and in terms of the wider social aspects of the topic depicts the everyday realization, unfolding and individual psychological consequences of gender inequalities, acts of violence within the family. Drowning, silence, and silence are a constant companion to the protagonist, Vera. Not only in the sense of how to find the voice after a trauma and in what words it can be passed on to others, but also thematizes the problem of who has the right to speak and who does not have it and what to say at all.

With the Margin Award, the winner will receive HUF 500,000 as well as a trial translation. This year, Bookline will contribute HUF 15 million worth of media support to the promotion of the book, and konyvesmagazin.hu offered the author the possibility of a portfolio series. This year, the first 40 volumes of prose were nominated for the award by publishers and authors, with the ten best selected by a pre-jury. The winner was chosen by a professional jury consisting of Nikolett Antal (Association of Young Writers), Ferenc Czinki (Society of Fine Writers), Ádám Gaborják and László Valuska, director of the Margó Literary Festival.
Next to Rita Halász’s book Ágnes Gurubi Heart street and Albert Gazda Leningrad his novel was put at the forefront.
