Gergely Karácsony was elected mayor of Budapest two years ago. The politician remembered this in a video uploaded to his community page. In his view, it was not yet possible to guess how difficult a period would come soon.
The coronavirus epidemic has screened everyone from humanity. We tried to stand up, despite the government’s intrigue. We have been launching decades-long investments for a developing, green city that can be a common home for all of us.
The mayor wrote in his post.
Gergely Karácsony also ran as a prime ministerial candidate in the opposition pre-election in the second round, where he finished in second place in the first round. In addition to supporting his party, the Dialogue, the MSZP and the LMP also supported his start-up.
However, on October 8, the mayor announced his resignation in favor of the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely, Péter Márki-Zay, who took the third place in the first round.
