Index - Domestic - Péter Márki-Zay: I don't think Fidesz will find much in me!

Péter Márki-Zay has been “going very well” in the capital in recent days, he learned a HVG360 from several sources.

The portal writes that because of this, those who were confident in the victory of Klára Dobrev are already expecting close competition in the circles of DK. Moreover, one of their socialist sources in support of Klara Dobrev expects Mark-Zay to win.

According to their source following the pre-election on the spot, a kind of “opposition-changing attitude” can be perceived among the voters, many of whom are satisfied with the left-wing politicians of the last 20 years in addition to Fidesz.

All this is surprising in that DK is traditionally considered strong in the capital. On the other hand, Mayor Gergely Karácsony stepped back in favor of Péter Márki-Zay, which may explain why the support of the candidate of the Everyone Hungary Movement has increased so much. By the way, in the first round, Gergely Karácsony took the districts of the capital mostly and Péter Márki-Zay was already ahead of Dobrev in several places.

In addition to the above, HVG360 was informed that although the Socialists are now gathering around Klara Dobrev, in the long run they are not expected to move from the MSZP to the SE. However, a politician with insights into the MSZP and DK affairs said that

Ferenc Gyurcsány’s years of efforts to incorporate the MSZP seem to be ripe for success.

At least as far as the pre-selection campaign is concerned. Another left-wing politician, who asked for anonymity, said he thought it was expected that the Socialists would stand behind Klára Dobrev despite the request of Gergely Karácsony.

For most, however, this is an obvious, value-based choice, as ideologically it is much easier to identify with the left-wing Dobrev than with the Christian-conservative Mark-Zay.

He said. Meanwhile, several of the socialist politicians acknowledged that their relationship with Klara Dobrev was really good. A source close to the DK said that less than a third of the politicians who took a stand for Klara Dobrev visited them personally, usually deciding to do so.

Exceptions include the mayor of Szombathely, András Nemény, who was called by Klára Dobrev herself for a public forum in Szombathely.

I said that I can support it on the condition that the local governments receive funding in case of their victory, and he promised to do so – András Nemény told HVG360 about this.
