Iron tools already circulated in the Alentejo for almost three thousand years | Archeology

Until the beginning of this month, not much attention was paid to a 2900-year-old iron chisel that had been discovered in the Alentejo region at the beginning of this millennium. Now, this is the centerpiece to update (slightly) the story: this 18 cm iron chisel will be the first proof of the use of high quality iron in the Iberian Peninsula, well before what would be expected. After all, steelmaking could already be a practice in small Iberian communities in the Alentejo region and Spanish Estremadura at the end of the Bronze Age.
