Left-wing politicians, analysts and activists for the rights of women or LGBTQ+ people, all anticipated that the Government led by Giorgia Meloni would jeopardize rights and freedoms won, fighting what she herself designates as “political correctness”, “lobby LGBT” or “gender ideology”. Expectations began to materialize with an order sent to the City Council of Milan to stop registering the children of same-sex couples as children of the two members of the couple, a measure condemned by the left and by activists as “discriminatory” and “ homophobic”.
