Dakar debutant Jerome Martiny made it to the last bivouac of the 44th Dakar. On Friday he leaves Bisha behind and heads for Jeddah where the final stage is set up on the Red Sea. “Yes, we are close to our goal for which we came: to reach the finish of the Dakar. Tomorrow we have a short ride. Today’s stage went well. After five kilometers I caught up with Jean-Loup Lepan with whom I have been fighting for the classification since the start of the Dakar. One time he was in the lead, the other time I took over. We had a good time and finished in good shape.”

Mikael Despontin had a slightly more difficult race. He fell after a dune after which the engine stalled. The last 40 km he had to drive without a road book and he followed the tracks until the finish.

Mathieu Liebaert (KTM) was the third Belgian motorcyclist to finish in the Dakar. Liebaert finished 65th. The Belgian is 56th in the standings. (Belgian)
