Julia Dujmovits in second place at the Olympic dress rehearsal

On Friday, Julia Dujmovits was only beaten by the Polish athlete Aleksandra Krol in the snowboarders’ parallel giant slalom on the Simonhöhe in Carinthia. The Burgenland woman had reached the grand final at the Olympic dress rehearsal with victories over the Russian Milena Bikowa, the German Carolin Langenhorst and the Russian Sofia Nadirschina, whom she left behind by 1/100 of a second in the semifinals. All other ÖSV participants failed in earlier phases.

Daniela Ulbing won her round of 16 against the Swiss Ladina Jenny, but then had to admit defeat to Nadirschina. Sabine Schöffmann was eliminated in the round of 16 against Deutsche Langenhorst. For the men, the ÖSV runners ended up in the quarter-finals, Alexander Payer lost to South Tyrolean Roland Fischnaller after defeating Russian Dmitrij Loginow, Lukas Mathis had to bow to Slovenian Tim Mastnak after beating Russian Andrej Sobolev.

Benjamin Karl in fifth and eighth place, Alexander Payer in sixth place and Andreas Prommegger in seventh place ensured the only top ten results for Austria’s men this winter before the Simonhöhe competition, so the quartet for Beijing is emerging. Karl (19th) and Prommegger (21st) had already failed in qualifying on Friday. Just like with the women Claudia Riegler (30th), who is not nominated for the Olympics due to a lack of vaccination.
