Kamila Valieva has updated the world record at the European Championship - Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Kamila Valieva won the short program at the European Championships in Tallinn, breaking the world record. The previous achievement also belonged to her and was established at the home stage of the Grand Prix in Sochi (87.42 points). But the closer the Beijing Olympics, the more Camila admires. This time she passed the mark of 90 points – 90.45.

– These points mean that I am moving in the right direction, that I do not just go out to training every day and hone the elements. This is the motivation to continue working, – the press service of the International Skating Union (ISU) quotes Valieva. – It’s nice to get such high marks. But before going out on the ice, I try not to think about possible records, I focus on the program, on how to convey the image, mood, to capture the judges and spectators with my skating. I hope I will be able to show the same inspired skating in the free program.

We will find out the name of the champion and prize-winners on Saturday. Will the pedestal turn out to be completely Russian? We will not guess, because according to the results of the short program, we did not see the Russian top three. The second was the Belgian Luna Hendrix (76.25), who cried and was in shock from her breakthrough. Alexandra Trusova is the third so far (75.13). And the current world champion Anna Shcherbakova remained only fourth (69.05).

On the first day of the tournament, everyone gasped and groaned happily, praising our singles, who unexpectedly showed stable, confident and clean skates. Andrey Mozalev, Mark Kondratyuk and Evgeny Semenenko performed two quadruple jumps each, scored under 100 points each and took the lead. Yesterday, during the performance of figure skaters Eteri Tutberidze – with the exception of Valieva, who did a triple axel, a triple flip and a cascade of “triple lutz – triple toe loop” – all these interjections acquired a completely different emotional coloring.

Alexandra Trusova once again took a chance and went to the ultra-C element in the short program – an axel of 3.5 turns, but fell. Anna Shcherbakova was also mistaken. The “triple lutz – triple rittberger” cascade failed again. The athlete fell from the first triple jump, breaking the element. Hence such low marks, which did not even reach 70 points. Anya did not make it to the top 3 in the short program for the first time in two years and for the second time in her career. This only happened at the 2019 US Grand Prix.

Kamila Valieva “flew” into space, Alexandra Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova fell, letting the Belgian woman go ahead. So, will there be a Russian pedestal in Tallinn?

But in the free program, Trusova has trump cards in the form of quads. At the qualifying Russian championship, where the competition is higher than at any major international start, she, for example, made three quads, including two in a cascade. There was only a misfire on a solo quadruple sheepskin coat. From the fifth place, Sasha moved up to the second line. But Shcherbakova fell on a quadruple flip. But the point is not only in physical condition, but also in psychology, mood. Trusov’s “Russian rocket” does not regret the risk at all. “To give up the triple axel is to lose,” she told reporters.

Anya Shcherbakova, on the contrary, was upset and depressed: “This rental is not at all what I expected. So they are not technical, but in the head. “
