These are actors’ awards for actors. Every year, the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG, in the original) distinguish the best performances of that year in film and television. The 29th edition took place this Sunday at the Fairmont Century Plaza, a hotel in the Century City area, Los Angeles, California. Before the ceremony, nominees like Austin Butler, Cate Blanchett, Zendaya or Viola Davis walked the red carpet.
It’s the big awards ceremony that precedes the Oscars ─ scheduled for March 12th ─ and, therefore, celebrities usually bet everything on the red carpet, fleeing more from traditional and black, the safe choice, which never compromises. As such, there was no shortage of color, sequins and pearls in bold silhouettes and volumes.
One of the highlights of the night was the young actress zendayaknown for dazzling in the red carpet. Ambassador of the Italian house Valentino, as expected, it was this brand that dressed her. The romantic satin pink gown was decorated from the waist to the dramatic train with hundreds of satin roses. The actress earned her first SAG nomination for her performance in euphoria ─ an award that would later be won by Jennifer Coolidge for The White Lotus.
Also one of the winners of the night, Michelle Yeohprotagonist of Everything Everywhere at the Same Time, wore a Schiaparelli dress with an explosion of gold sequins. It didn’t take long for the Internet to compare the creation to french fries or shredded paper. The Italian house always surprises with its bold design and, once again, it fulfilled its purpose of generating buzz.
Already Jenna Ortega embodied the character of Wednesday Addams and continued one of the trends that have been seen the most on the red carpet: the choice of models vintage. The asymmetrical dress is from the Italian Versace archive, part of the Winter 1994 collection, and was designed by Gianni Versace (1946-1997).
There was also no shortage of color on the red carpet and Viola Davis It was one of the surprises of the night. The classic Valentino model was recreated in a bright yellow, taking the actress out of her comfort zone. Jessica Chastain it also stood out in pink on a voluminous Zuhair Murad. In contrast, in black, Cara Delevingne wore a jumpsuit with a taffeta skirt by Carolina Herrera, the house led by Wes Gordon.
Lately, actors have been proving that it’s not just women who dazzle on the red carpet. Austin Butlerappointed by elvis, stood out in a bold scarlet Gucci suit. In turn, Eddie Redmayne went beyond tradition, with a lacy shirt and black pants, a look Saint Laurent.
After the parade on the red carpet, chaos ensued at the entrance to the ceremony, advance the Page Six. A video shared on Twitter shows the cluster of celebrities, at the door of the awards room, being prevented from entering. Amidst the chaos, Bill Murray, Rooney Mara and Claire Foy can be seen waiting for authorization from the security officer.
It is not known for sure what happened, but the situation led to the indignation of many guests. However, the celebrities managed to enter the room and Claire Foy there was still time to present one of the prizes. In a satin Prada in pistachio green, the British model stood out for her minimalism.
