NEWSWEP.COM, JAKARTA – Chairman of the Ma’arif NU Educational Institution, KH Arifin Junaidi, rejected the government’s plan to collect taxes on education services.
He asked the government to immediately annul the plan.
“LP Ma’arif NU PBNU rejects the plan to abolish tax exemptions for educational institutions, and asks the government to cancel it,” said Arifin in a written statement, Friday (11/6/2021).
According to Arifin, the reason for the government to collect taxes from education services cannot be understood.
Arifin mentioned the government’s plan to include education in the Omnibus Law Bill.
“After failing to include education in the business regime when drafting the Omnibus Law Bill, now the government will impose taxes on educational institutions,” said Arifin.

Tax collection, according to Arifin, is against the government and society’s efforts to educate the nation.
“This is contrary to efforts to educate the nation which demands the government’s role and community involvement. The government should support community participation,” said Arifin.
LP Ma’arif NU, Arifin said that until now he is still active and active in the field of education, not for financial gain. But to continue to participate in efforts to educate the nation as an implementation of the mandate of the 1945 Constitution.

LP Ma’arif NU, he said, was active in the field of education long before the independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Currently LP Ma’arif NU oversees about 21,000 schools and madrasas throughout Indonesia, most of which are in the 3 T area.
“In determining the cost of education that must be borne by students, let alone calculating the components of the margin and return on capital, being able to pay education staff properly is a difficult thing. Because it will be very burdensome for parents,” said Arifin.
This is what causes the salaries of educational staff in the Ma’arif NU LP to be recognized as still far from decent, because it is far below the UMK.
