Last week Storm Uri passed covered a staggering 73.2 per cent of the 48 contiguous states in snow, according to the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center.
It marked the most coverage since data collection began back in 2003.
Power supplies across the country also failed in the extreme cold, including natural gas-fired power plants that were knocked offline amid icy conditions.
Across Texas, Georgia and Alabama, the icy weather either led to the closing of vaccination sites outright or held up the necessary shipments, with delays expected to continue for days.
