A particularly serious incident took place in the Rogier metro station in Brussels on Friday evening shortly after 7:40 PM. A man pushed a woman onto the tracks for no reason. Fortunately, the STIB driver managed to make an emergency stop at the last minute.
Like the subway driver, the victim was taken to hospital in shock. According to a spokesman for the STIB, the service was interrupted for half an hour for an investigation. The suspect – a young man – managed to flee, but was later arrested near De Brouckèreplein. The public prosecutor’s office in Brussels has not yet made any statements about the case.
The footage shows him waiting for a subway to arrive to push the victim in the back. As the woman falls heavily, with her head on the rails, he walks away. The alert metro driver was able to narrowly stop the metro set using the emergency brake. The victim was not hit and travelers were able to get her back on the platform.
