The Mater Dei Salvador Hospital is going to carry out an action to mark the World Kidney Day, celebrated last Thursday (9). Free creatine testing will be offered to the population.

To gain access, interested parties must fill out a form that will be made available on the hospital’s instagram profile (@materdeisalvador) from March 27th, next Monday.

Patients who are contemplated with the exam will have a later appointment to receive the results. Those who present any renal alteration will be advised to look for a nephrologist, in the private network, if they have an agreement, or in the Unified Health System (SUS), with the report in hand.

The theme for World Kidney Day 2023 is “Care for the vulnerable and be prepared for unexpected challenges”. According to the coordinator of the Nephrology Sector at the Hospital Mater Dei Salvador, Bárbara Oliveira, the focus of the campaign is to increase information for the poorest and most vulnerable population about Chronic Kidney Disease and how its diagnosis is made.

“When the diagnosis is made in the early stages of the disease, we can treat it by preventing its progression to the final stage, when patients will need dialysis or a kidney transplant”, he says.

The nephrologist points out that, as Chronic Kidney Disease is silent, in most cases, the ideal is that a screening with a urine and creatinine summary be performed in patients with risk factors such as systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, age advanced and sickle cell anemia.

“These two simple tests give us information about the functioning of the kidneys, which are organs that filter our blood, eliminating the toxins that our body produces, regulate blood pressure, blood production and control body fluids”.
