João Canijo is not the only filmmaker who is at the Berlin Festival this year with two complementary films; There is another case, that of the Iranian Mehran Tamadon, who throughout his career has sought to understand what motivates fundamentalists in his country, and to open a dialogue between fellow countrymen “pro” and “against” the religious regime of the Islamic Republic. In this 73rd Berlinale, he proposes a pair of films that function as mirrors, or faces, of one another, and that have the same objective, certainly utopian, manifestly idealistic, of wanting to confront the Iranian regime with the human cost of its policies, or, if you like, with your conscience.
