Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), received eight senators in his office today (2) to address the conditions of incarceration of prisoners for the coup acts of January 8, when the headquarters of the Three Powers were invaded and vandalized .
After the meeting, Senator Rogério Marinho (PSDB-RN) said he expected more detainees to be released “in the next 15 to 20 days”. He said that the minister signaled for the quick release of people who had not committed criminal acts on January 8, but who eventually ended up arrested along with the real vandals.
Still without a lawyer, many of these people did not even ask to be released, Marinho stressed. He praised the Public Defender’s Office of the Federal District, which has been working to identify those who still do not have a constituted defender and make the respective requests for release.
The hearing of the eight opposition senators with Moraes takes place after the minister released 225 people since Monday (27). In all, of the more than 1,400 arrested for anti-democratic acts, 655 were released and 781 remain in the DF penitentiary system.
The provisional freedoms were granted by Moraes on the grounds that they were first-time offenders, who had already been charged, and who most often had minor children or health issues. Even so, such people should wear electronic anklets and stay at home at night and on weekends.
Some of the senators who were with Moraes before inspected in loco the situation of prisoners, after being authorized by the minister. In a letter, the parliamentarians said they were concerned about the “lack of information about the individualization of the responsibilities of those involved”.
This is important for “the proper treatment of each detainee, considering their behavior, individual circumstances and the objective and subjective aspects of the crime”, says the document.
In addition to Marinho, Senators Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ), Tereza Cristina (PP-MS), Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), Mecias de Jesus (Republicanos-RR) participated in the meeting with Moraes this Thursday (2nd). , Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and Wellington Fagundes (PL-MT).
