Now that his MotoGP career is over, Valentino Rossi wants to race on four wheels. The 42-year-old Italian will immediately start working for the best GT team in the world, the Belgian WRT of ex-racer Vincent Vosse. Rossi will appear at the start in the 24 Hours of Spa, among other things.
The Doctor had already tested an Audi R8 GT3 from WRT at the end of last year, and was immediately impressed by the level of Vincent Vosse’s troops. That is also allowed, because WRT collected about fifty titles in international GT and prototype racing over the past ten years. Last year they claimed the world title in LMP2 and a class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The fact that Vincent Vosse was once a successful racer himself also helped Rossi in his decision.
“Everyone knows how passionate Valentino can be, which is why we really wanted to work with him,” explains Vosse. “That test in Valencia removed the last doubts. I am really looking forward to what we can show this season.”
“Now that my MotoGP career is over, I can devote myself completely to motor racing,” Rossi said in a press statement. “We clicked immediately with the people at WRT, and I’m very happy to be competing in the GT World Challenge together this year.”
The highlight of the GT World Challenge will be the 24 Hours of Spa, during the last weekend of July. Ticket sales for the 24-hour race will start at the beginning of next month.
