Musical theater. K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko opened the 103rd season with one of his most ambitious premieres of past years – Verdi’s Othello staged by Andrei Konchalovsky, even contrary to tradition, to be the first to show an opera by a Russian composer. And the ballet season starts on September 17 with the play “Giselle” by Adam, edited by Laurent Hilaire.

And the first stars of the theater will be the first to appear on the stage. The role of Othello was played by Nikolai Erokhin, Desdemona – by Khibla Gerzmava, Iago – by Anton Zaraev. And today Nazhmiddin Mavlyanov will make his debut in the part of Othello in a duet with Natalya Petrozhitskaya (Desdemona) and Sergei Murzaev (Iago). Natalia Somova will perform the title role in Giselle.

Before the start of the season, the theater’s general director Andrei Borisov, the theater’s chief director Alexander Titel, the French ballet’s artistic director Laurent Hilaire, and the chief conductor Felix Korobov spoke about their plans, briefly recalling the year in quarantine conditions. Compared to 2019, theater revenues from ticket sales fell 53%, while the number of performances decreased by only 17%. Without large-scale assistance from the state in the person of the founder – the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow, the theater believes that it could not continue to work.

Andrei Borisov, who headed the theater as an anti-crisis manager after a protracted conflict between the management and the artistic leadership only last November, noted: “Conditions remain difficult. The reason for this is the constraints caused by the pandemic and limited financial resources. , do not exclude mutual respect, tact, the possibility of making joint constructive decisions. And the solidarity of artistic and intellectual positions, common in the vision of the development strategy, is what constitutes an artistic ensemble, the historical fundamental principle of the Musical Theater. ” And despite all the difficulties, the theater hopes for a close-knit and fruitful work under the slogan: “We are creating the future now.”

Andrey Borisov also formulated the creative concept: “Our theater is a director’s theater. This is its historical fundamental principle. We must reveal the names of young opera directors, but at the same time we cannot and will not forget that MAMT is a musical theater. Search for new approaches to working with a score, new interpretations, as well as directing, allow us to create a unique, interesting artistic product for the Moscow and world public, “the director concluded.

Our theater is a director’s theater. This is its historical foundation.

The first premiere on 22 October of the 103rd theatrical season will be the ballet Romeo and Juliet. Director Konstantin Bogomolov and choreographer Maxim Sevagin are working on the new performance. This is the first appeal to ballet by one of the most famous and outstanding Russian drama theater directors and the first full-scale production of a young choreographer. And by definition, she is guaranteed increased attention.

The most significant opera premiere should be the production of Verdi’s Rigoletto directed by Vladimir Pankov, who will also make his debut, but in the opera, and Felix Korobov will be the conductor. And the funniest premiere of the season will be Offenbach’s operetta “Robinson Crusoe”. Alexander Titel will work on the play.
