200 billion jigsaw puzzle: see how the JWST space telescope was built

As we have already informed you, a petition was issued a few months ago calling for the renaming of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). One reason is the fact that Webb – a former NASA administrator – was once involved in Lavender Scare, a campaign in which the US government mass-dismissed homosexuals.

Last month NASA without further details announcedthat she dealt with the matter thoroughly and found no reason to rename it.

However, astronomer Lucianne Walkowicz does not like this conclusion at all. In protest, it has now decided to resign as an adviser to the space agency and called the investigation “fake.”

“It is clear from this choice that any promises of transparency and thoroughness were in fact lies,” she wrote among others in his open letter.

According to Walkowicz, she was never so optimistic that she thought NASA would listen to criticism and then act. Despite this, he still feels that it is worth continuing this fight. Therefore, she urged the scientific community not to use the current name of the telescope.

For the sake of completeness, let us add that the above-mentioned petition was signed by more than 1,200 professional and amateur astronomers.
