Chaired by the national commissioner, Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, the technical congress of the 61st season of Cuban baseball was held this Thursday in the Adolfo Luque room of the Latin American stadium, which will begin on January 23 in Bayamo with the match between the champions of Granma and the subtitles of Matanzas.

After an exhibition of the Teammate brand sports uniforms and accessories that the Cuban Federation acquired for the championship, Pérez Pardo and the director of the National Series, Carlos Martín, presented the official competition calendar.

They recalled that the teams’ rosters are 40 players and that any of them may participate in the games at the discretion of the management of each team, although only 25 will travel to the challenges in other provinces.

Home teams will have only 25 players on the bench, the fixed maximum number of athletes who can see action in a game. During the entire campaign, other players who have not been registered as of today, with the exception of those hired in foreign leagues and youth who are called up to the national team, will not be able to be added and canceled.

The manager pointed out that the reinserted players who are currently playing in other leagues must be included in the lists, arrive in Cuba before game 60 and have consumed at least 40 at-bats or accumulate 20 innings pitched, in the case of the Serpentineros, to be able to be in the postseason.

The structure, as reported, will be the same as the previous season, with 75 games per team, all against all, to access the quarterfinal playoffs, the best of seven games and without reinforcements.
At the meeting it was revealed that the games will be played in the afternoon (1:30 pm) and that the possibility of a night game is valued, depending on the availability that exists in each of the territories.

The challenges recovered can be done in the morning hours (10:00 am), with double rounds to seven innings, as in the last series.
Regarding the entrance of the public into the stadiums, the manager said that it is approved that they attend up to 50% of the total capacity, taking into account the local infrastructure and depending on the epidemiological situation of each province.

The price of the tickets will depend on the decision of each territory and the National Commission stressed that it has nothing to do with this issue, in charge of the Government of each province, so it can be inferred that there will not necessarily be uniformity in this regard.

At the meeting, the holding of the exhibition match between the Granma and Industriales teams was ratified, this Friday at 7:00 pm, in tribute to the 60th anniversary of the start of our National Series, which will be attended by fans who are members of sports clubs or guests for the occasion.

Finally, after the under-23 national championship, scheduled for the months of July to September, the Selective Series (from October to January) was officially announced, a tournament where six teams are expected to participate: the reinforced national champion, the Cuba team for those under 23 years of age and four other outfits that will be made by geographical areas with the most outstanding athletes of the national campaign.
