Two days before the home game against OH Leuven, Luka Elsner looks ahead to the match, which will mean his debut as Standard trainer. The Slovenian has immediately made an important decision and is making a captain change.

No longer Kostas Laifis, but Arnaud Bodart is now captain of Standard. “Arnaud is a certainty when it comes to leadership,” explains Elsner. “He dares to speak out and takes his responsibility. I gave Arnaud the band, but we need several leaders, with guys like Laifis, Dussenne or Carcela, one fulfilling that role differently than the other.”

From these words it can be concluded that Noë Dussenne and Mehdi Carcela will again play a role in the competition core. The duo continued to train with the A-selection this season, but did not make the competition sheet yet. “I draft the best players, the door is not closed to anyone,” said Elsner.

The Liège T1 sends Aleksandar Boljevic back to the promises. The wing striker will meet Maxime Lestienne again. “I will keep William Balikwisha with the group. We have a large core and you can’t work with too many players. I want to create a close group, but situations can change every week. Nothing is final.”

One certainty: Laifis (thigh) and Gojko Cimirot (calf) will not play against OHL. Merveille Bokadi is on his way back from his Achilles tendon injury. On Friday evening, the Congolese, who has been out of action since May, will make his long-awaited return in the U23 match against KRC Genk. (bfa)
