Although smartphones with a physical keyboard have been ringing for some time, a similar attempt will reappear from time to time. This is also the case of the Planet Computers brand, which is testing it with keyboard phones for the third time, this time with a model Astro Slide.
While its predecessor bet on a folding structure (but not with a flexible display), the novelty changes in the form of a slider. Although this concept may seem outdated, there is some demand for this type of equipment. The manufacturer has already raised the required amount for it through a crowdfunding campaign and is now announcing that it is sending the device into production.
Two connectors, but also two systems
The device, when folded, looks like a conventional smartphone, and when it is pulled out from the bottom, it comes out of a full-fledged QWERTY keyboard, which turns it into a small handheld computer. The phone offers a 6.39 ”AMOLED display. The phone was first introduced more than a year ago, but only now is its development completely completed, so the equipment had to be slightly updated.
The performance is taken care of by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 processor with 5G support. There is 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. An advantage over other phones can be a pair of USB-C connectors, the other is intended for connecting peripherals. The integrated battery with a capacity of 4,000 mAh can also be charged wirelessly. A 48Mpx camera will be used for photography.

The phone runs the Android 11 operating system, but since it is actually more of a communicator, there is also a possible dual boot – the user can switch to the Linux operating system instead of Android. The device is currently sold for the price of 529 euros (approx. 13,500 CZK). The manufacturer has not yet informed about the date of delivery to customers.
