The news that ‘Batgirl’, the new superhero film by Adil El Arbi (34) and Bilall Fallah (36), will be scrapped, hit the directors hard. Fortunately, they can count on the support of their colleagues. On Instagram, El Arbi thanked Kevin Feige, the big boss at Marvel, for the support.

El Arbi gave his followers a look at what could have been. He shared a photo from the set, in which he is flanked by lead actress Leslie Grace and Michael Keaton, who would return as Batman for the first time since 1992. In the following stories, he thanks everyone for all the support.

“Thank you for all the support from around the world. Shout out to Edgar Wright and James Gunn. Your kind words and experience mean a lot to us and help us through this difficult period.” Wright, who released the thriller last year Last night in Soho directed, had to crack hard nuts in the past.

The director worked with Marvel Studios – DC’s major competitor, owner of batgirl – years on a first film about ant-man, but just before shooting, he was told that the project was going in a different direction. Gunn, who already worked for both Marvel and DC, at one point had to direct again Guardians of the galaxy vol.3 hand it over, only to be rehired a few months later.

El Arbi also shares an email from Marvel boss Kevin Feige. “I had to let you know that we are all thinking of you. Not just because of the wonderful news of marriage – congratulations! – and the disappointing news about batgirl. I am proud of all the fantastic work you are doing, and especially Ms. marvel. I can’t wait to see what you guys do next. Hopefully see you soon.”
