“When you retire as a footballer, you’re good on the pitch, but off the stadium you need time and patience to learn,” said the 117-time international.
“I believe that this adventure in the USA will help me mentally and that it prepares me for the time after.”
The centre-back is leaving the “Bianconeri” after 18 years, during which time he has won the league nine times and the cup five times. “I could have continued very well as a footballer in Italy, I still have quality,” said Chiellini.
However, he preferred to end his career there now: “In recent years I have managed to find a personal balance that allows me to live everything with a certain serenity.”
