Textor has been the majority shareholder in 1B club RWDM since the beginning of this year, the American also owns the Brazilian Botafogo. He also owns shares of Premier League club Crystal Palace.

If the negotiations are successfully concluded, Textor will be in charge of Lyon. After a disappointing eighth place in Ligue 1, he wants to bring the club back to the top with more financial means.

Jean-Michel Aulas (73), president of Lyon since 1987, led the club to seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles (2002-08) and two Champions League semi-finals (2010 and 2020). However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to compete with the wealthy PSG.

“With this project, Lyon is starting a new chapter in its fantastic history,” said Aulas. After the acquisition, Aulas and the board would stay on, according to the l’OL press release.
