Anthony Fauci, chief epidemiologist and health adviser to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, is infected with Covid-19, showing mild symptoms, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) released this Wednesday.
The 81-year-old specialist in infectious diseases has become a central figure and has been much listened to since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, as he is vaccinated for SARS-CoV-2 and has already received two booster doses, said the NIAID, where Fauci is director.
The same source clarified that Anthony Fauci’s symptoms are mild and that he will be in isolation and “will continue to work from home”.
The NIAID statement added that the epidemiologist had not recently been in contact with the US head of state.
Currently, the United States registers about 300 deaths and more than 100,000 cases of covid-19 per day, a number below the reality, according to experts.
The recent increase in cases was associated with subvariants of Ómicron.
US health authorities have disclosed the various drugs available, including vaccines, but also the antiviral Paxlovid, in case of infection.
Covid-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in 2019 in China and which has spread rapidly around the world, having assumed several variants and subvariants.
