Apple: everything you need to know about the new iOS 16 update
A personalized lock screen experience
The lock screen is now more personal, engaging, and useful with iOS 16. With a new multi-layered effect, photo subjects appear ahead of the time on the lock screen, creating a sense of depth. Users can also change the layout of the date and time with different font style and color options.
Plus, it comes with widgets inspired by Apple Watch complications, making it easy to get information at a glance, such as upcoming calendar events, weather, battery levels, alarms, time zones, circle progress, etc. Activity and much more.
The new gallery on the lock screen brings many options for inspiration, such as Apple collections, including Pride and Unity, to celebrate special cultural moments. It also has a Weather wallpaper that shows real-time weather conditions throughout the day and an Astronomy wallpaper with views of the Earth, Moon, and Solar System.
Users can also create lock screens using their favorite emoji or color scheme. And they can have multiple lock screens and choose the one they like the most with just a swipe. Additionally, notifications have been redesigned to drop down from the bottom so users have a clear view of their personalized lock screen.
Find balance with Focus
Focus mode is now easier to set up and connects with the lock screen so users can associate wallpaper and widgets to a particular Focus. To activate it, you simply have to slide your finger until you reach the corresponding locked screen. With Focus filters, apps like Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari can display only relevant content based on the user’s Focus, allowing you to find a balance.
The place for family photos with iCloud Photo Library Sharing
With iCloud Shared Photo Library, families can easily share their photos in a separate iCloud Photo Library where up to six users can participate and collaborate. Users can choose to share the photos they already have in their personal photo libraries or share them as of a certain date or based on the people who appear in them.
They can also choose to send photos to the Shared Photo Library automatically using the new option in the Camera app. In addition, users will receive smart suggestions for sharing photos featuring PhotoShare participants.
Shared photos or videos can be added, deleted, edited, or favorited by all users of the Shared Photo Library, and will appear in each user’s Memories and Featured Photos so everyone can relive those family moments.
Updates to Messages
Users can edit or unsend a message, retrieve messages that were just deleted, and mark conversations as unread to read later. In addition, SharePlay arrives in Messages, to enjoy synchronized content, such as movies or songs, and share playback controls while chatting in Messages.
New tools for Mail
Users can now schedule emails in advance and have time to undeliver a message before it reaches the recipient’s inbox. Mail detects if the user forgot to include an important part of the message, such as an attachment.
Users also have the option to have a message reappear at any date and time with the Remind me later option, and follow-up suggestions automatically remind users to follow up on a mail if they haven’t received a reply.
Mail also includes the biggest update to search and uses revolutionary techniques to deliver more relevant, accurate, and complete results. Users see recent emails, contacts, documents, and links as soon as they start searching for an email.
